“I am honored to be supporting Helping Hands For Freedom. Our military families are the real heroes. At the end of the day, if I can do a small part in making their lives better, it is the least I can do to honor their sacrifices for our freedom.”
— Derek Wolfe, Defensive End, Denver Broncos

Helping Hands For Freedom – Building a House of Healing
Beginning April 28, 2016, Helping Hands for Freedom started a journey across the United States, walking 3,091 miles on the famous U.S. Route 40 all the way to San Francisco, California where over 120 HHFF supporters met at the Golden Gate Bridge to celebrate the accomplishment and to raise funds for the construction of a “House of Healing” retreat house for military families. David Roth, Chairman of the Board for HHFF and member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and Kevin Winton, Beach Grove Middle School math teacher, led this journey to honor and serve our brave heroes and families in need.
The suicide rate among our Veterans on American soil is estimated to be at 22 lives per day. The HHFF “House of Healing” will team up with specialists providing a wide assortment of treatment options for Veterans suffering from PTSD, including equestrian and canine therapies that are having a measurable impact on reducing the five-year average it is taking for our soldiers to fully come home.
Helping Hands for Freedom, a 501c3 non-profit organization, sees first-hand the tremendous emotional impact that losing a loved one to war has on our military families. A primary function for the House will give Gold Star Families a place to heal while they navigate through the loss of a father, mother, husband, wife, brother, sister, son or daughter. The House of Healing will feature six living quarters, where families can have some solitude as they begin rebuilding their shattered lives.
Mr. Roth says, “Walking Across America was truly an inspiring journey. Now, the real work begins. Please help us build a “House of Healing” to support our military families by donating today. Even if it is just Adopting a Soldier for $22, you will be making a difference.”
